Principal's Weekly Update

Good morning everyone,

We are thrilled to bring you this week's updates, featuring special guests Lavanya and Amelia from Year 7, who will share some exciting news at the end of this Vlog. Our three main themes for this week are a recent peer review at the school, our proud values, and an exciting opportunity involving technology and the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

Hillington Learning Partnership Peer Review

This week, we welcomed a team of four experts for a peer review, including an Ofsted inspector and three colleagues from local Hillington schools. The goal was to evaluate our teaching practices and personal development program. We are proud to announce that it was the best review we've ever received! Our students shone brilliantly, meeting gold standards in various aspects.

We did identify a few areas for further improvement, particularly related to the use of green pen feedback in class. We will provide more details soon on how you can support us in enhancing your children's educational experience.

Our Proud Values: Positivity and Determination

Our proud values are central to our school's ethos, particularly positivity and determination. I want to highlight our philosophy of "determined walking," which encourages students to move efficiently between lessons. This initiative has been well-received and is helping students embody our values in their daily routines.

A special mention goes to Ryleigh in Year 8, who will showcase his determination by climbing Snowdon to raise money for Halo, one of our cherished school charities. We wish Riley and his family the best of luck and will share a link for anyone who wishes to support this noble cause. Many staff members are sponsoring Riley, and we will keep you updated on his progress.

Celebrating Positivity and End-of-Year Events

The summer term is brimming with positivity and exciting events. This afternoon, we celebrate our Year 11 Golden Laurel Awards ceremony, and Friday marks the Year 13 Leavers' Prom and Ball. Following that, we have numerous reward trips, including a day at Chessington, the Year 9's first Duke of Edinburgh expedition, and the Grand Party with the Principal. Finally, we will celebrate Culture Day on the last Monday before the break.

These events are fantastic opportunities for students to engage and be celebrated for their achievements. We will provide more details as these events approach, so keep an eye out for further updates.

Spotlight on Technology: Olympic Torch Project

Now, let's hear from Lavania and Amelia about the exciting technology project happening this week.

"I like DT because it's fun, and my creativity flourishes when I work on different items. There are many interesting tools and techniques we get to use," says Amelia.

Lavanya adds, "This week is Technology Week, and we have an exciting competition inspired by the Olympic torch. The winner will receive a special trophy. We hope everyone will participate!"

We encourage all students to enter the competition and showcase their innovative designs. The best entries will be displayed soon.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the great weather, and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Sincerely,

Louisa Seymour
Principal
