Careers (CEIAG)

Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

Uxbridge High School has high expectations for their students and will make every effort to help them make well informed and realistic decisions, which will enable them to reach their full potential in the future. We will achieve this by providing access to impartial and independent information and guidance about the range of education and training options that are most likely to help the young people achieve their ambitions.

I aspire to be by Year 7 & 8

"High-quality careers guidance helps pupils to be well prepared for the next steps in their education."
Ofsted 2018

Careers education helps young people to develop the knowledge, confidence and skills that they need to make well-informed, carefully considered choices and plans that enable them to progress smoothly into further learning and work, and to help them manage their careers and sustain employability throughout their lives.

Careers education, combined with effective information, advice and guidance, is critical to young people’s educational career in:

  • Avoiding disengagement during key stage 3;
  • Choosing KS4 options;
  • Helping to avoid underachievement or disengagement during key stage 4;
  • Choosing appropriate post-16 and post-18 destinations.

Careers education also draws on and contributes to the whole school curricular development of students’ employability skills which are listed below:

  • Self-management;
  • Team working;
  • Business and customer awareness;
  • Problem solving;
  • Communication and literacy;
  • Application of numeracy;
  • Application of information technology.

"Pupils acquire an excellent understanding of the world of work and begin to make choices about their future employment from the earliest stages in the school. They receive very helpful guidance about personal skills and qualifications appropriate for their careers aspirations. They are able to make well-informed decisions about the next steps in their education."

LEARN LIVE CAREERS PAGE

Take a look at our Learn live Careers Page, which is an innovative, interactive, live online channel that brings a world of opportunity and experiences directly into the classroom, home or business. The broadcasts showcase key messages, provide live video feeds, play and share video content and applications that can be downloaded by anyone.

It gives you the ability to see any career events that are taking place at UHS and keep you updated with upcoming live broadcasts from both national and local businesses, colleges and universities.
There is also a Live Jobs applet that promotes any vacancies and will flash red every time there is a new one, in a 'breaking news' style. This is an opportunity for students/parents to see a job on the tab and click on the link attached to it. If taken to the Learn Live Channel, the interested party will be shown videos relating to the employers’ vacancies and given the opportunity to talk directly to that employers via a Live chat facility.

You can also register to our Careers Page, so you can be altered to new businesses joining the Learn Live Channel, when opportunities are updated and live broadcasts are taking place.

Independent Advice and Guidance

The school employs the services of an independent careers advisor from the Education Development Trust (EDT). This advisor is available to see students from year 8 upwards. They support our students in a variety of ways, whether it is through group work looking at a particular area such as decision making, option choices, routes into further and higher education or training and apprenticeships or individual careers advice and guidance interviews. These sessions are designed to support students in the development of their career ideas and to prepare a plan of action. Including looking at Labour Market information.
