Principal's Weekly Update

Hello everyone,

This week's update comes from Mr Churchill, Acting Vice Principal, and Mr Sasu, Curriculum Leader for Art.

Reflecting on a Successful Half-Term

We want to take a moment to acknowledge the many positive achievements of our students this half term. Over 400 students earned Zero Hero Awards, demonstrating exemplary behaviour with no negative points. Thousands of Star Student Awards were presented for actively participating in lessons and embodying our school's core values.

Upcoming Events and Support

This Friday, we are hosting a charity event organised entirely by our Year 11 students. We will be sharing pictures on our social media platforms soon. Remember, each term concludes with a charity event organised by a different year group, fostering a spirit of community and giving back.

Year 11 and Year 13 students have their pre-public exams (practice papers) approaching shortly after half term. As parents and carers, we encourage you to support their revision using resources like Seneca and Microsoft Teams. Our dedicated period 6 intervention program will also resume after the break to provide further academic support.

Enrichment Update

This half-term saw the successful launch of our enrichment program. We are pleased to report that 94% of students received their first-choice activity. Mr Sasu, who leads the Therapeutic Art session, will now share some insights into this program.

Mr Sasu on Therapeutic Art

"I'm thrilled to lead the Therapeutic Art program for Year 7 students as part of their Tuesday enrichment activities. These sessions utilise engaging creative activities to explore feelings, identity, and relationships, helping students navigate complex emotions. This not only fosters their social-emotional and psychological development but also boosts self-esteem. It's a wonderful space for students to relax and prioritise their well-being. It's inspiring to witness our young creatives learn stress management techniques and develop healthy mental health habits. I'm proud to be a part of this journey with them."

Half-Term Break and Return

Just a friendly reminder that next week is half term! We return on Tuesday, November 5th. Have a safe and enjoyable break, everyone!

We have just received a message from Metropolitan Police for a safety reminder for students.  This was received after the filming of our VLOG:

We are fast approaching winter, clocks are due to go back within the week and the daylight hours are becoming shorter.

Students may find themselves travelling to and from school in the hours of darkness over the coming months. Students and their parents are reminded that in order to maximise their safety on their journeys to and from school we would recommend:

  • Where possible students walk/travel in pairs or groups to and from school.
  • Walk down main roads/routes that are well lit. Avoid going through parks, alleys or other unlit or poorly lit areas.
  • Ensure they are alert to the environment around them, avoid wearing headphones or being distracted by mobile phones and other devices.
  • Students should have a set route to and from school that is discussed with parents and carers.
  • Parents and carers have a personal safety conversation with their children.
  • If they are concerned about their safety please call the police
