Principal's Weekly Update

Hello everyone! Welcome to this week’s blog, where I’ll share key updates on three important themes currently happening in our school.
1. Celebrating Co-Curricular Excellence
This week, we had an amazing event as part of our co-curricular programme. Jovan Owusu-Nepaul, a former Labour candidate who once competed against Nigel Farage, visited our school to speak to students about democracy. This event, organised by Ms. Kaur, Head of History and Politics, provided an invaluable opportunity for students to engage with ideas about fostering change and hope for the future.
Jovan Owusu-Nepaul connected with our students, particularly Year 12 students, who eloquently articulated the changes they wish to see in society. Events like this align with our school’s proud values—Respect, Open-minded and Unique—by inspiring young people to see democracy as something they can actively participate in.
Our co-curricular and enrichment programmes have continued to flourish this term, offering students opportunities to grow and thrive. From exciting activities to engaging workshops, these programmes remain a weekly highlight for both staff and students. We encourage parents to ask their children about these experiences and share feedback with us.
Winter Music Showcase
Looking ahead, we’re preparing for our Winter Music Showcase, with auditions currently underway. If your child has a talent or passion for music, singing or the arts, please encourage them to audition. Taking that first step can unlock amazing potential and possibly pave the way for a future career in the arts.
This showcase is a cherished tradition during the winter season and a Christmas highlight, celebrating the remarkable talent within our school community. Older students are always there to support younger participants, making it a nurturing and inclusive experience. We’ll share the date for the showcase soon, so stay tuned and join us for what promises to be an unforgettable evening.
2. Focusing on Safety
As winter nights draw in, safety remains a top priority. We’ve shared guidance from the Metropolitan Police on staying safe in the local community and we encourage parents to have conversations with their children about these important messages.
Greenway and Bus Safety
We are also asking for parental support to ease congestion on The Greenway after school. If possible, please arrange to pick up your child as far away from the school gates as possible, to reduce crowding and ensure everyone’s safety.
For students using the U3 bus, The Greenway bus stop can get extremely busy. Encouraging them to walk to the next stop up the road can help minimise overcrowding and potential safety risks. Staff are always present to manage the situation, but your support in discussing this with your children can make a big difference.
By working together, we can maintain a safe and respectful environment for our school community and our local residents.
3. Congratulations to Year 11 and 13
Finally, a huge congratulations to our Year 11 and 13 students for their dedication during the recent PPE (mock exam) period. Their hard work, focus and respect for each other was exemplary.
